Hole Description:
This mid-length par-4 typifies itself as a good starting hole, extending to players a “gentle handshake” to begin the round. Lots of room off the tee, but those who favor the left side, near the fairway bunker, will be rewarded with a favorable angle of approach into the green. The putting surface is slightly elevated with a deceptive bunker fronting on the right. The shouldering green contours are rather flowing and are maintained at collar height to promote a variety of recoveries when shots roll off-target.

Hole Description:
A demanding tee shot greets players here with an angled fairway and a long, deep bunker guarding the inside edge of the fairway. Stay close to the bunker to earn a shorter approach into the large “infinity” green. Players who use the gentle but open foreground can reach the green with less club and avoid the trouble lurking beyond the green.

This gorgeous par-3 has more bark than bite… a rather large, receptive green, even with the water (front and left) and the bunker (right). The putting surface is full of subtle contouring which makes for some tricky putts.

Hole Description:
A thoughtful par-5 with ample space off the tee. Players who favor the right side will gain the advantage of proper strategic positioning which will ease the challenge of conquering the fairway bunkering ahead. Continue to favor the right side for the best angle into the green as three, deep bunkers front the small green on the left.

Hole Description:
Avoid the hollows and hummocks in the left rough at all cost… but skirting those features with a left-to-right tee shot will use the pitched fairway slope to gain the best approach position. The green is situated hard against the water on the right, but is otherwise a generous and welcoming target. The green is accented on the front left by a deep bunker, but the shouldering collar around the left and back sides allows for slight misses.

Hole Description:
A long and demanding par-3 with water looming on the right side. However, the green is quite large, so it’s best to try to take the water out of play. A bold ridge breaks the green surface in its center, so being on the proper side will make for an easier putt to judge. If the pin is on the right side, however, it may be best to play to the green’s center.

Hole Description:
The 7th is the longest par-4 on the outward holes, and also boats some generous width…making this a great driving hole. Avoid the bunker on the right by aiming at the small target bunker on the left. This will leave players with an open approach into the angled green. The surface is slightly elevated, but welcoming in the front. A deep bunker guards the angled edge on the right while a raised bank shoulders the left and can be a useful feature to feed the ball into the green. Just don’t go left of that high bank, as the recovery shot could be one of the most demanding on the course.

Hole Description:
This mid-length par-4 is all about positioning. Water lines the entire left side of the hole, so playing safe here is the goal. The green has some back-to-front depth and some rather active surface contours… so be sure to know where the pin is set. A long “saving” bunker sets against the left side of the green while a bold hollow and some fall-away slopes occupy the remaining shoulders.

Hole Description:
Don’t be fooled by the generous width off the tee here. To play this hole well, one should concentrate on hugging the right side, all the way to the green, bringing the fairway bunkers into play all the while. Those who bail to the left side will ultimately face one of the more difficult approach shots on the course, as the angled green has very little depth and is guarded on that angle by two, deep bunkers and a fall-way slope off the back. Follow this tip and you won’t need to scold the architect!

Hole Description:
If there is a “breather” hole on the Lakes Course, it’s probably the 10th… a short par-4 with plenty of room off the tee. Position the tee shot in the right center of the fairway for the best angle to the green. Two bunkers guard the front left. There are some tricky contours in the green surface, but birdie should always be the goal.

Hole Description:
This par-5 has a welcoming feel from the tee, much due to the angled fairway and its resulting perceived width. Aim to stay close to the bunker on the left, as this will position players well for their second shots… as approaching the green from the right side adds significant difficulty. The approach shot here is a unique one and is partially obscured. The fairway in front of the green pitches from the top of a ridge downhill into the green, so players should feel comfortable playing to a shorter yardage and use the slope to feed the ball to the pin. Smart players will avoid the right side at all costs as the green guarded by a long, deep bunker and the green has very little depth.

Hole Description:
The par-3 12th is certainly one of the more identifiable holes on the Lakes Course and is what is referred to architecturally as a “partial punchbowl”. While the left half of the green is rather traditional and straightforward, the right half is set within a concave bowl between two, bold ridge-like landforms. Shots that are able to land within these mounds will be rewarded when the balls gather into the receptive green surface, and possibly VERY close to the hole. A very unique and enjoyable hole to play.

Hole Description:
The 13th is a great mid-length par-four and require players to have an awareness of “positioning”. Keep the tee shot near the fairway bunker on the left to gain the best angle into the green… or play boldly to the right to shorten the approach shot which must carry over the water to a small, angled green. There’s plenty of space to miss around the green, with long gentle slopes and tightly mowed turf, but the recovery is a delicate one with water awaiting on the far side.

Hole Description:
A medium-short par-five, the 14th is all about the second and third shots. There is plenty of room off the tee… just a single bunker on the right to avoid. A menacing cross bunker angles through the fairway in the approach… and visually makes the green look closer than it is in reality. Those who are able to clear it on their second shots may be able to run up and into the green. The conservative play is to position short or left of the bunker. The green is cleverly contoured, so getting a birdie here will be well earned, despite the shorter length.

Hole Description:
Most great golf courses have at least one, good, short par-4. The 15th is that hole on the Lakes Course. Options abound on the tee shot… to shorten the hole by carrying the water on the left… or to play for position among the small bunkers scattered in the fairway landing area. A good tee shot to the left half of the fairway will provide the best angle into the small, elevated green. Shots coming in from the right half of the fairway must negotiate a deep bunker. There are some interesting contour folds in the green surface that make for some distinctive pin positions.

Hole Description:
The tee shot on this par-4 has the appearance of having a rather small fairway landing area, framed by bunkers on both sides. The bunkers are, however, staggered quite strategically with the one on the left guarding the preferred line. Players who are able to carry that left bunker will make the hole much shorter and earn an ideal angle into the deep green. A deep bunker lines the right side of the green while the left side is a fall-off collection area with short turf that calls for a more slightly easier, uphill recovery pitch.

Hole Description:
The Lakes Course certainly saves the most challenging hole to the last… and water is omnipresent throughout. The tee shot here is the real key - so make this one the best of the day! Players who are able to play boldy over the water on the left will be rewarded with a less difficult approach and a favorable angle into the green. Those who bail out to the wide and welcoming right side will face a much longer and difficult shot the green, over the water and with the lake lacing hard against the right side of the green as well. There is a specious fairway approach across the water on the left - a safe place to escape when the green is otherwise out of reach.
